2017 LGBT Governor’s Conference Information

The annual LGBT Governor’s Conference is an event that brings together educators, students, and others interested in ensuring that our schools are safe spaces for LGBTQ+ students and adults. In addition to keynote speakers, there are a variety of break-out sessions that cover varying topics each year. Some topics from previous years include GSA fundraising, transgender access to restrooms, GSA planning and activities, etc. The conference also hosts a variety of exhibitors. More information about the event is available here.

The conference this year will be held on April 11, 2017 at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. Our group will be leaving Vernon at 5:45 AM and returning sometime close to 6:00 PM. We may leave the conference earlier if everyone agrees. We will only be taking students 7th grade and up.

* High school students should see about attending with Ms. Junge, unless she can’t go – if that’s the case, let me know ASAP and I’ll see about taking you!

Parent and teacher pre-approved absence forms (linked below) are due this Friday, February 24th (signed by teachers AND parents). If you need more time, please let me know ASAP. Because this absence will take place next quarter, you will need to look up your upcoming schedule on PowerSchool and get signatures from those teachers. See me with questions!
